Denver Yoga Underground is different….

Established in 2003, we teach yoga as a holistic system – deepen the roots of practice and awaken hidden potential. Our select offerings include: weekly master classes, PWYC workshops and retreats. • Study teachings that are rooted in history and tradition
  • Deepen as a student and teacher of yoga
  • Agents of Good Awards for Social Workers and School Teachers for Yoga Teacher Training
  • New to Denver? Looking for your yoga tribe? You may have just found it.

Just a bit about me:

My name is Derik Eselius

Personally, I was introduced to yoga on a rogue trip to India in 1991, just after highschool. My first yoga revelation….

“I had no idea that it was possible to feel so alive!”

This marked the beginning of a life long study – cultivated over decades by daily practice under masterful teachers, to whom I owe a great debt. Denver Yoga Underground is a reflection of my best understanding of how to share classical yoga in contemporary society in a way that is both equitable and sustainable.

Here’s how we do it:

Several decades ago, when I first went to yoga classes, the practice was closely associated with “discipline.” People talked about “discipline” the same way we talk about “flow” or  “trauma sensitivity” now. It was in the air of practice. Discipline is an essential aspect of what the yogis call “Tapas.” Tapas are the creative friction […]

Oftentimes we may enter yoga with the hope of gaining something, such as greater range of motion or peace of mind, often with success.  It is a sensible motivation. On a deeper level, the yoga process reveals a deeper capacity to accept life as it is, independent of our predeterminations–the ability to sit in loss, […]
