The Source of Fulfillment
If you are like me, you were taught that life is an outward-facing mechanical process—Darwin’s investigations in the Galápagos being a prime example. From this perspective, consciousness is merely the product of unconscious matter arranged just so.
No doubt, the material creation is wondrous, starting with the miracle of your bodily intelligence, the delicate perfection of sunlight, the song of crickets at night, and life still stirs 36,000 feet below the sea. All incredible!.
Still, according to yoga, this is only the outer skin of existence. And the launching point into the inner world of yogic sciences.
The Veda states that only 25% of the creation is made of the material substance we recognize. The other 75% is non-physical energy. In other words, there is a deeper cosmic infrastructure behind material existence. The surface of the ocean only reveals a small portion of its fathomless story.
And here we must insert a mind bending alternative: “Involution”. The yogis plumbed the depths of the inner world, emphasizing the “subject” of experience rather than outer “objects.”
All Objects Occur within Subjective Awareness
This has profound implications as far as your capacity for fulfillment is concerned.
Yoga practice is less about striving to manipulate our material circumstances and more about cultivating a rich inner life—one that is resilient, poised, and entirely capable of meeting the shifting tides of the outer world.
