Chakras: Portholes of Higher Potential
Every yoga student has heard of chakras, yet they are often shrouded in mysticism or presented in overly abstract ways. This workshop offers a grounded, practical, and powerful introduction to the chakra system — bridging the metaphysical with real-life application. Together, we’ll explore how the subtle body directly influences your psychological patterns, emotional health, and overall wellbeing. You’ll learn how to work with the chakras in an embodied way through asana, meditation, and sound. This experience is designed to support meaningful inner transformation — not just intellectual understanding.

In this workshop, we’ll explore:
- A deeper look at the yogic subtle body
- The chakra system as a pathway for psychological and energetic transformation
- Practical integration into asana and meditation practices
- Chanting and sound-based methods for activation and balance
- A clear outline of practices you can continue on your own
Derik first encountered yoga in 1991 when he first met and became a student of Baba Hari Dass, a life long yogic adept.
He went on to be a student of the Iyengar method for eight years; and a dedicated student of Richard Freeman, Tias Little and Rod Stryker; completing multiple yoga teacher trainings and immersive courses along the way.
In 2001 he became a full time yoga teacher, accumulating over 10,000 hours of experience instructing workshops, retreats, and YTTs. Additionally, he is a professor of yoga at Metro College, and founder of Denver Yoga Underground, providing in-depth yoga study in a grassroots format.
