Yoga as “Honest Medicine”
We often imagine (or have been taught) that growth as something we add—another practice, supplement, or goal. But just as often, true evolution comes from what we remove. Clearing friction and clutter creates the space where renewal quietly takes root. Quality sleep is an obvious example.
Practices of restraint—biking instead of driving, a period of silence, a brief media fast—require effort, yes, but they also restore a kind of inner clarity. I think of these as “honest medicine.”
Honest medicine usually requires some initial effort and the reward is on the backend. Substances like alcohol work in the opposite order; fun upfront, pay on the backend.
Wednesday, Oct. 14th marks the start of our annual fall cleanse—a time to reset, simplify, and rekindle the body’s natural intelligence to heal itself.
A full seasonal cleanse may feel like too much just now. But what small gesture of release might support you this week? Cleaning a drawer? Tidying a corner of your mind? Turning off a persistent distraction?
Invite a friend to join you, or share your intention aloud. These small acts of letting go are often like finding hidden treasure—simple, humble, and gleaming just beneath the surface.
