Our Mission
Our mission is to create a safe haven for dedicated yoga students and teachers to study traditional yoga methods and philosophy, foster good in themselves, and serve communities in need with yoga practice. We do this through allied partnerships, community-based classes, pay-what-you-can workshops, and yoga teacher training.
Community Building Opportunities
Denver Yoga Underground participants know that DYU is more than a place to practice yoga asana, more than a list of class offerings in various styles, more than a “studio.” We specialize in in-depth and holistic teachings of yoga.
Our course offerings don’t follow the latest yoga trends, we don’t have a gift shop, or classes on the hour. Instead, we cultivate personal and collective transformation; awakening and empowering the human spirit through the communal practice and study of classical yoga methods and philosophy.
This traditional grassroots approach isn’t for everyone, but for our participants it is clearly the preferred path.
Keeping our operations lean allows us to focus on the core teachings and values of traditional yoga and to deliver a more impactful and consistent body of teachings to our participants, but it also means our reserves and our staffing are necessarily limited.
As such, DYU is expanding its opportunities to directly participate in and support our mission, through both stewardship opportunities that support the operations of DYU, as well as through the purchase of DYU memberships.
How DYU Stewardships and Memberships Support Our Mission
DYU Stewards support our mission by establishing a pool of volunteers who can assist with event logistics, community teaching, outreach, backroom operations, and instructor support.
DYU Memberships support our mission by establishing a reserve of volunteers and funds to be used to:
- Ensure continuity and completeness of instruction during periods of lower attendance or late student withdrawal.
- Expand DYU’s instructor offerings to bring in supplemental teachers who share our vision of grassroots yoga programming from both the Denver area as well as to include out-of-towners.
- Help fund our Agents of Good awards program which offers social workers, school teachers, et cetera, the opportunity to participate in our yoga teacher training programs at 20% reduced costs as well as to support deeper discounts of 30-40% for mental health agency staff development.

DYU Stewardships Opportunities
In the spirit of our grassroots community based model, DYU is looking to establish a pool of reliable community members to contribute to the greater vision and mission of DYU through any of the following volunteer or “Steward” activities:
- Event Staffing. Responsibilities to include set up, checking people in, tending to the momentary needs of the space during the event, and breaking down set up at the end. Event staff receive free admission to the events with which they assist.
- Technical website assistance
- Logistical support at annual retreats (includes complimentary pass to retreat)
- Graduate internship/assistance with Yoga Teacher Training 200 hour classes
- Host and assist out-of-town / special guests with lodging and transportation
- Maintain the space: including props, equipment and cleanliness of studio
- Teach a one month long Community Class, Monday nights 5:30-6:30
